Volunteer

Nearly 1,000 elders need a friend like you. Almost half of Chicagoans over 70 are growing old alone in our city.  Many can’t leave their homes unassisted or are without a reliable network of family and friends.

We give elders vital support and the chance to develop the meaningful friendships missing in their lives. They receive support and companionship from our volunteers. By volunteering with LBFE, you will discover in them a wealth of wisdom, humor, guidance and inspiration.

There are many little ways to make a big difference. We believe that volunteering should enhance your life rather than add to a growing to-do list. That’s why we offer a variety of opportunities – from visiting elders in their home to helping with mailings in our office. You choose what is right for you. We ask for a minimum commitment of five hours a year.

Quote from Ida

“I couldn’t go so many places without Little Brothers,” says Ida, who has has been with LBFE for 21 years. “What a good time we always have – there are luncheons, there are dinners, there are places to go. I like to get out when the sun is shining.”

Also an Oprah fan, Ida would like to tell the media queen: “You couldn’t be part of a better organization [than LBFE], especially at my age. They have so many things going for you.”
